What happens at a Newborn Photoshoot?

FAQs

  • Where will the newborn photography session be?
The newborn photography session will take place at your home, where I will provide all the necessary props, wraps, and outfits. To ensure the comfort of your baby, expect frequent breaks for feeding and settling. During the session, I keep the photographic area very warm to keep your baby comfortably asleep, especially when posing them. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me beforehand.
  • How should I prepare for a newborn photoshoot?
FAQ How should I prepare for a newborn photoshoot? Preparing for a newborn photoshoot involves a few simple steps to help ensure that your baby is comfortable and happy during the session. Here are some tips to help you prepare: 1. Schedule the session when your baby is around 4-21 days old. This is the ideal time to capture those adorable newborn photos. Later is perfectly possible but your baby might be more alert. 2. Keep your baby warm and cozy before and during the session. Dress your baby in comfortable, easy-to-remove clothing and bring a few extra blankets. 3. Feed your baby before the session. A full tummy will help keep your baby relaxed and content during the photoshoot. 4. Keep your baby calm and relaxed during the session. Bring a dummy/pacifier or any other items that help soothe your baby. 5. Relax and enjoy the session. Trust the photographer to capture beautiful memories of your little one. At Gill Flett Photography, we take pride in providing a comfortable and safe environment for your newborn photoshoot. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us.
  • My baby has already arrived - am I too late to book a newborn shoot with Gill Flett Photography?
It's never too late to enquire about booking a newborn shoot with Gill Flett Photography, even if your baby has already arrived! While the best time to schedule a newborn session is within the first two weeks of life, Gill will do her best to accommodate your needs and the needs of your little one. She understands that sometimes due dates and arrival times can be unpredictable, and is always happy to work with families to ensure that they have beautiful memories of their newborn to cherish forever. Simply reach out to Gill as soon as possible to discuss your options and availability.
  • How long do newborn photoshoots take?
How long do newborn photoshoots take? Newborn photoshoots typically take between 3-4 hours. This allows for time to feed, change, and soothe your baby as needed. It also allows for time to set up and adjust lighting and props for each shot. I work at a relaxed pace to ensure that your baby is comfortable and happy throughout the entire session. It is recommended to schedule your photoshoot within the first two weeks of your baby's life, as this is when they are at their most sleepy and easiest to pose. If you have any other questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Gill Flett Photography.
  • What should I wear for a newborn photoshoot?
As a newborn photographer, I often get asked this question by parents who are preparing for their baby's photoshoot. Here are a few tips to help you choose what to wear: 1. Keep it simple - Avoid wearing anything too flashy or distracting. You want the focus of the photos to be on your newborn, not on what you're wearing. 2. Neutral colors - Soft, neutral colors like beige, gray, white, or pastels work best for newborn photoshoots. They complement the baby's delicate skin and create a timeless, classic look. 3. Comfortable clothing - Remember that you'll be holding your baby and posing for photos, so wear something that's comfortable and easy to move in. 4. Coordinating outfits - If you're planning a family photoshoot with your newborn, try to coordinate your outfits. You don't have to wear matching outfits, but choose colors and styles that complement each other. Overall, the most important thing is to feel comfortable and confident in what you're wearing. Don't be afraid to ask your photographer for more specific advice or recommendations based on the style of the photoshoot.
  • I love that you'll come to me for the photoshoot but my house is small - do you need lots of room for your equipment?
Not at all! While I do bring a variety of equipment to ensure the best possible results, I'm able to work within the space you have available. I understand that not everyone has a large home or studio space, and I'm happy to work with you to make the most of the area you have. We'll discuss your preferences and needs before the session, so I can arrive prepared with the appropriate equipment and set-up. Don't let a small space deter you from capturing these precious moments with your newborn - I'm here to make it work for you.

  • What if my newborn has jaundice, baby acne or scratches themselves before the photoshoot?
It's completely normal for newborns to experience jaundice, baby acne or scratches in the first few weeks of their life. As a newborn photographer, I understand that these conditions can make parents feel worried about their baby's appearance in photos. However, I have experience working with newborns in all conditions and I have techniques to minimize the appearance of jaundice, acne or scratches in the photos. If your baby has jaundice, I will use a special editing technique to reduce the yellow color in their skin. If they have baby acne, I can use a soft-focus technique to minimize the appearance of blemishes. If they have scratches, I will work around them and use my expertise to ensure they are not noticeable in the final photos. My goal is to create beautiful and timeless images of your newborn, regardless of any challenges we may encounter during the photoshoot.
  • Do you use dummies/pacifiers?
Do you use dummies/pacifiers? Yes, I do use dummies/pacifiers during my newborn photography sessions. I understand that sucking on a pacifier can help soothe and calm a baby, which can be helpful in achieving those sleepy, posed newborn photos that many parents desire. However, I always respect the wishes of the parents and will not use a dummy/pacifier if they prefer not to. Safety and comfort of the baby is my top priority during every session. If you have any concerns or questions about the use of dummies/pacifiers during your newborn photography session, please do not hesitate to contact me.

  • What happens if my baby won't sleep during the session?
We understand that babies can be unpredictable and may not always sleep during our photography sessions. Don't worry, we have a few tricks up our sleeves to help soothe and calm your little one. We will work with you and your baby's needs to make sure everyone is comfortable and relaxed during the session. • Is it ok to take some photos on my phone during the session?
Of course it is! It's part of the experience - as long as it's just on your phone and not with a camera that might interfere with the professional equipment in use.
  • I'm not photogenic - how will you make me comfortable in the pictures?
